Georgia’s Native and Invasive Plants

List of Invasive Plants

The Georgia GISC Invasive Plant List is an excellent resource that can help you identify and categorize plants that pose threats to our ecosystem at various degrees in Georgia. Organized from EPPC Category 1 (major threat) to Category 4 (minor threat), this list is intended to aid in making ecologically productive land management decisions, as well as increase public awareness of invasive species that might be creeping in your backyard.

Native Plant AlterNATIVES

The Georgia Native Plant Society has a helpful document of native plants that can be functional replacements to invasive species. This AlterNATIVES GNPS document can be a helpful resource in getting started in your habitat regeneration journey.

List of Native Plants and Cover Crops

The Georgia Native Plant Society webpage is a great recourse for discovering varieties of beneficial plants local to our region.

The Sustainable Agriculture Department at UGA provides an in depth list of cover crops that are organized by season and specifically for their agro-ecosystem benefits rather than for long-term harvesting. Farmers and gardeners use cover crops to prevent erosion, increase the organic matter composition in the soil, provide a symbiotic habitat for beneficial insects, promote diversity in the soil, increase microbial activity, and so much more!

Georgia Native Plant Nurseries

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia has a helpful list of Recommended Native Plant Nurseries in and near Georgia to source native plants.
